Try that in WA, Jeff, you end up with a full set of tyre marks over your back. Perth is the tailgating capital of the world, and a gentle message like slowing or touching the brakes to your follower to indicate that they may be burning the paint of their front bumper on your exhaust is as often as not, with a male driver, likely to be met by flashing headlights and an attempt to push you off the road. Or on a freeway an attempt to push you into the car in the lane next door.

I found you often had to simply pull over, unless you wanted to give them a finger then run for it. Danger there was that if you do the same run regularly, they could catch up again. And they often have long memories and can see you a long way ahead.

I try to be very passive when on 2 wheels, after a few serious run-ins with psychopaths in Perth.

It's safer to be a bit more assertive in a car, but I tried doing the slowing and brake dab bit with a particular specimen of very large 4WD on a country road near Perth while in a Mini a few years ago. After 10 miles of near misses and at times totally illegal speeds I managed to unexpectedly zap down a side road to get away from him. 3 days later he came up behind me again. This time I managed to get into a police station carpark in the nearest town.

Like something out of a midwestern American C grade movie.

That was a bit extreme, admittedly, but similar incidents are reported all round Perth every day. Drivers must be more polite in your neck of the woods.

Generally, though, most tailgaters are more ignorant than aggressive. Often I find young women the worst. They seem to think their reaction times and brakes are more than adequate to cope with an emergency stop at 110km/hr one car length behind you, as they chat illegally on their mobiles and do their lippy while texting the boyfriend.

Western Oz drivers, and particularly Perth car drivers, are on average the rudest, most aggressive, dangerous and stupid in Australia, by several orders of magnitude. I lived there 31 years, so I've done the survey, and comparisons with other places. Must be something in the water. Many of the bike riders are worse.

(Non tourist) West Scotland drivers, on the other hand, who aren't in Audis, Bummers, or delivery vans, are incredibly patient and polite. On single lane roads (common here) they nearly always pull over into the passing spots and stop to let you go by, either in the opposite or the same direction, even though you could probably squeak past. I spend a lot of my time waving to say thanks over here (rarely to Audis, though)

Apparently the Staintune exhausts don't just sound "better" they also allow the engine to breath better and hence rev better towards the top of the range.

The dealer was using fully synthetic but I have bought motorcycle specific semi-synthetic for a reasonable price. I checked the interweb for filters and found the dealer was cheaper. I will probalbly change oil avery 5000-6000km and filters double that.

I went to a seminar on leasing vehicles. To make it economical you would need to do 12000km/year. We all figured that would be impossible even if we went on a driving holiday twice a year, and it is 1500km to get out of here. I owned my Electra for 6 years and even with 2 long trips I only managed to do 35000km so perhaps I will only be changing oil once a year.

That looks fantastic! my co-pilot is very excited, its not like I launch it away from the lights or anything, I just think she will feel a lot safer with a backrest. Also plenty of room on the rack to strap down 1/2 a dozen pasties.

Really looking forward to getting it on the bike now!

Every time I take my W800 out for a spin I hear the engine make two kinds of noises. The dominant one is a lowish rumble, like every every motorenthousiast likes and there is a higher pitched sound. At lower revs it sounds like a clicking, ticking sound and at higher revs it starts to sound like a humming bee. It ‘s not that I’m worried, but I’m just curious as to what that sound can be. As soon as I let go of the throttle, the sound is gone. A soon as I open the throttle, the bee is back. The location is where the injection is placed.

Oh yeah, about the windscreen (thread screens); if anybody is interested, I will sell it for 200 euro incl P&P europe (new 360 euro).

So far (5000km) I haven't had the problem whereas a mate had it well before this. Perhaps the factory fixed the issue for later models - I hope. And it does seem to happen early so the bike should still be in warranty
